Welcome! to Prince Edward Island, Canada’s smallest
Province.
The lighthouse cottage is only a 2 minute walk to theNaufrage fishing
harbour where you can watch the fishermen coming and going
for the catch of the day. Imagine seeing them bringing in a
700 lb Tuna or a thousand lbs of lobsters. Be sure to get some
fresh lobsters or other fresh island seafood. If you want to
know about the island fishing just stroll down to the wharf
and talk to our local fishermen; they will tell you a yarn
or two
... like the one that got away!!! or didn't.
Naufrage means“shipwreck” in French and that is
how the harbour got its name. Back in the 1800’s and
early 1900’s there were shipwrecks off the coast due
to the shifting of the many sand bars. The lighthouse stands
tall guarding the shores for the boats today; it is located
right out the door of the Naufrage Lighthouse cottage.
